OUR FAMILY LOVES EMELITA!!!! Words could not express how blessed we feel that our boys attend this school. We moved to the area last year and the transition was difficult. From day one the staff was very welcoming to our family and exceeded any and all possible expectations. Their support and care made all the difference to us and my sons love coming to school. Principal Elizabeth Mayorga is a warm leader, dedicated to building a strong and inclusive school community. On Fridays, we meet for assembly, say the Pledge, and celebrate student accomplishments. The teachers are devoted and infuse discipline with light-hearted humor and goodwill. The coaches are absolutely incredible with the kids, and the admin staff manages to remain kind and pleasant despite their very demanding and busy schedule. This is truly a special place with very special people who dedicate themselves with genuine care, compassion, and understanding to the children that are a part of this school.
I currently have two children attending Emelita and have two that have already culminated. I am very happy that my children have attended Emelita Street Charter School. Emelita has a great Principal that listens to parents and leads a kind staff of teachers. The school has fun after school enrichment programs, a fantastic PTA and a child care center that offers before / after school care from a staff that truly cares about the kids. Our family has made great friendships with children and parents here at Emelita, I look forward to a few more years of attending. Melissa Spellmeyer, Emelita family since 2005
During the past 17 years I have been at Emelita there have been many supporters such as the PTA, parent volunteers, community members, staff, and voters of our neighborhood. When I first started teaching in 1997, many of the classrooms had no air conditioning. Then a bond measure was passed and our school was upgraded so that everyone had air conditioning. It may not seem that important compared to the academic program, but it was very difficult to learn when it was one of those scorching Valley days. The PTA and parent volunteers were the force behind many upgrades to our school such as the Wonders of Reading library and both apparatus playgrounds. When the District was cutting our budget because of the financial crisis, the PTA put together fundraisers to raise money. There are many more things that have been done to help our school and every day they benefit the students. The support we have received over the years, and will continue to receive in the future is truly appreciated by everyone at Emelita.
When we started at Emelita Charted School I was concerned about having my kids start a new school. But I liked that the school was not as large as other schools I had looked at and had good test scores. I also liked the diversity in kids. My son started in the transitional kindergarten, which was amazing in getting him ready for kinder and first grade. Both my kids are doing well. They like their school and are doing well in academics. It is great they have made new friends. The after school program has also been great for working parents like myself. My kids also like the events and programs the school has through out the year. It is a great neighborhood school!!
Early on we knew that we wanted to be and wanted our children to be a part of the little school in their neighborhood. Our children love attending, have made some great friends, and have had some wonderful teachers. Families and parents are encouraged to get involved with the school and some people have continued to volunteer at Emelita long after their children have left for junior high. It’s the neighborhood school in which you can take ownership and everybody knows your name.
Emelita Academy Charter is on the horizon for new and exciting changes! I am so happy to be a fellow Emelita Eagle by joining the team in 2013. As a primary teacher I truly enjoy engaging and inspiring young minds. Allowing students to thrive in new experiences by incorporating technology and hands-on activities in all core subjects is truly a passion of mine. I am excited for what the future holds for Emelita as a school and for all our wonderful students and families! We truly are on the brink of greatness so stay tuned!
My name is Mrs. Quintanilla, I have been at Emelita for 12 years. I have taught kinder, first and third grade. I do believe my favorite grade is first. There is so much to learn and discover in first grade, that I love to be part of that journey with every child in my class. Emelita is a very special and unique school. We are small but full of character and culture. For several years we were the only school with more languages in the whole valley. We had 22 languages represented in our little school of about 450 students. With twenty-two languages, we truly are the United Nations.
I enjoy being greeted by the smiling faces of our students each morning. It's a pleasure to watch them grow and to see their excitement as they discover new concepts and learn more about the world around them. Emelita allows me the opportunity to expose my students to a variety of different learning opportunities and gives me the autonomy necessary to reach each student's individual needs. I look forward to many more successful years at Emelita
